Jean Childs Young Middle School is an amazing place to be an instructor. It is a school nestled in the Cascade Heights community of southwest Atlanta. It is a historic school in its' community, in the state of Georgia and in the world. The school is named after educator Jean Childs Young who was the wife of former Atlanta mayor and UN Ambassador Andrew Young. It sits right off Martin Luther King Jr. Drive on Benjamin E. Mays Drive. The school is now lead by Principal Ronald Garlington who grew up in the area and attended Young Middle school and Mays High School where most of the middle school students attend. The motto for the school is " Rebuilding the Legacy." The legacy referred to is the civil rights legacy. This was the school of prominent civil rights leaders and gifted Black and white children.

Young Middle as it is referred to is a part of the Atlanta Public Schools system. The mission of the school is to prepare students to be globally competitive through rigorous and equitable instruction. It is the schools goal to provide a continuum of care and services and keep parents and community stakeholder engaged with the success of their children.
