Community-based non-profit organizations that support the local community and families of students at Jean Childs Young Middle School.
Libraries:
Adamsville-Collier Heights Library- One of the oldest libraries to service the area is part of the Fulton County library center. The library offers tradition services but goes a step further in offering professional development series for community adults and teens.
Evelyn G. Lowery Library at Cascade- The library is a staple in the community of southwest Atlanta.
Non-Profits that support Young Middle School:
Cascade United Methodist Church- Cascade United Methodist Church provides rent and utility assistance services and support to help those in financial crisis. The faith based church assist families and individuals from the community.
The Andrew Young Foundation- Ambassador Young and former Atlanta mayor Andrew Young funds educational grants, leadership and travel for students in this community. The school was named for his late wife Jean Childs Young Middle School. He is a true ally as he is always at the school lending funding and direction.
Ag-lanta- A non-profit local growers of produce has partnered with Young Middle to provide fresh foods for students at the school. Local growers donate fresh food to the schools in house grocery Goodr Grocery store that allow students and their parents to shop for food weekly.
Recreation/Community Centers:
Cascade Skating Rink/ Community- Cascade skating rink although a skating center is a staple in the community. It also acts as a haven against violence. Community leaders celebrities use Cascade for fun but also as a center for fundraisers for the community. Local celebrities who attended Young and surrounding schools come here for fun and donate funds to uplift the community.
Young Generation Community Movement Center- Young Generation Movement is a center that believes kids deserve love, respect, and a nurturing environment. The organization under the leadership of Atlanta mayor Andre Dickens and founder Julious G. Khalid provides medical services, shelter and weekly education classes for adults and youth.
West End Family Center- The West End Family Life and Community Center provides effective educational, social, spiritual, and recreational programs and services youth and their parents that range from tutoring, adult education classes, sexual education classes.
Adams Recreation Center- The park and recreation center stablished in the late 1920s as a planned community for African American families. The neighborhood was named after William Edward Adams, an influential African American attorney and real estate developer involved in its development.
Ben Hill Recreation Center- The center was founded in 1941. It has been one of the centers in the civil rights fight. Young middle school students flock to this center as it houses a swimming pool, state-of-the-art basketball court and other gym facilities.
